This was a fine, 12-room, Colonial revival-style house. Joe Type HH
proudly oversaw the choosing of proper wall coverings, fine
Oriental rugs, and the selection of antique furniture for their
new home. Rose had all the modern conveniences, her own bedroom,
a private nursery for Eunice, and separate rooms for all the
children. (See Source 3, page 146.)

This $250,000 estate was purchased by Joe, but the deed listed
Rose as the purchaser of the property. The great red-brick
Georgian house had tall white columns and was set on over five
acres of meticulously landscaped grounds. There were 20
bedrooms, more than enough for all the children, the maids, the
nurses, and any guests that Joe might invite.
Joe Jr., Jack, and Kathleen had sovereignty over the third floor,
which also contained an enormous playroom and the governesses'
bedroom. The other children resided on the second floor.
Separate quarters existed for the gardener and the chauffeur.

Hyannisport, which had been built in 1902 as a rambling, white,
clapboard home with green shutters, with 2.5 acres of lawn, a
tennis court, a swimming pool, and a private beach. Three years
later, the Kennedys purchased the house and hired the original
architect, Frank Paine of Boston, to remodel it. An addition
doubled the size to 14 rooms and 9 baths and added a 30'x15'
motion-picture theater in the basement, the first private theater
in New England.
By 1932 the Kennedy family had grown to nine children, and the
summer home saw the comings and goings of Joe Jr., John,
Rosemary, Kathleen, Eunice, Patricia, Robert, Jean, and Edward.
Their days were filled with swimming, sailing, tennis, touch
football, and picnics.
President Kennedy later spoke of Hyannis Port as a special place
"where no two summers were quite the same".

Senator and Mrs. Kennedy bought this historic and lovely, three Type HH
story, Federal-style house, for the sum of $85,000. It was built
just after the War of 1812 by William Marbury (of the famous
Marbury v. Madison Supreme Court case). It is located in the
Georgetown part of Washington less than two miles Northwest of
the WhiteHouse.
Both Caroline and John John were born while JFK and Jackie were
living here.
Jackie redocorated the house three times in the first year, while
Jack concentrated on national politics. She hosted political
teas in the double living room during the presidential campaign
of 1960.
