Bishops Nympton, Devon. James was a farmer. Their children
were Frances, 22, Thomas, 18, Ann, 16, William, 14, James, 12, John, 10, and George, 1.
In the 1871 English census, James Hancock, 61, and his wife Jane, 56, were living at Rawstone Farm,
Bishops Nympton, Devon. James was farming 270 acres. Sons Thomas and William were
both married by about 1867 and had moved away. Nothing more is known about Ann.
The children at home now included Fanny, 30, James, 22, John, 20, and George, 11.
Jane died 23 Jun 1879 while living at Rawstone, Bishops Nympton.
In the 1881 English census, James Hancock, 69, was farming 260 acres at Rawstone Farm. The
only children now at home were Fanny, 40, George 21, and a grandson William, 14.
Bishops Nympton is approximately three miles east-southeast of South Molton, Devon, England.
