Notes:  Caroline Maude Hicks was born 2 Aug 1883 in Augusta, Kennebeck, Maine.  One source says it might have been Waterville — rather than Augusta.  She was the first daughter of Henry J. Hicks and Carrie L. Lovejoy, and always went by the name Carrie.  In the 1900 USA census, Carrie M., 16, was living with her parents in Woonsocket Ward 1, Providence, Rhode Island.  She had completed 9th grade, and had an adopted sister, Marie V. Hicks, 7.  Her father was a janitor.  She came to California in 1903 when her parents moved to Napa, California from Rhode Island.

Carrie married Frank T. Hancock on 3 Oct 1904 in Napa.  Their son Clifford was born in 1906, and son Arthur in 1908.  In the 1910 USA census, Carrie M., 26, and her husband, Frank T., 37, were living at 124 North Street, Napa.  Frank was a carpenter and they were renting the house.  Living in the household were Wilfred C., 17, an electrician, Gertrude, 14, both from Frank's first marriage, and Clifford H. 4, and Arthur S., 1.

Carrie was the matron of honor at the marriage of her sister Marion at her parents' house at 419 Seymour Street in Napa on Christmas morning at 9 A.M. in 1911.  Carrie served a wedding breakfast at her home at 1032 Third Street after the ceremony.

Immediately thereafter, she moved with her husband Frank to El Granada.  There she raised her family and became a member of Pilarcitos Rebekah Lodge No. 286 in Half Moon Bay.  However, Carrie's personality clashed with some of Frank's children from his first marriage — creating some friction.

In the 1920 USA census, Caroline, 34, and Frank, were living at "458" in a rented home in the Denniston Precinct, El Granada.  Frank was a laborer, doing odd jobs.  Only their two sons, Clifford, 12, and Arthur, 11 were in the household.

Tragedy struck on 12 Jul 1922 when son Arthur, 14, accidentally hung himself.  He was buried in the IOOF Cemetery, Half Moon Bay, San Mateo.

In the 1930 USA census, Carrie, 44, and Frank, 60, were living on owned property at an unrecorded address in El Granada.  Frank was listed as a carpenter, house building.  Living with them was "grandson Robert Hancock, 1".  He was actually Harry Robert Dobbs, Frank's nephew.

In the 1940 USA census, Carrie 54, and Frank, 70, now owned their home in El Granada.  Living with them was Robert, 11, in fifth grade.  Living nearby was their son Clifford and his family.

In the 1950 USA census, Carrie, 66, and Frank, 83, were living on Almeria, El Granada.  Frank was listed as unable to work, and she as keeping house.  Frank died on 10 Apr 1951 in the San Mateo Community Hospital, and was buried in the IOOF Cemetery, Half Moon Bay, San Mateo.

Carrie lived in El Granada until a year after Frank's death.  She then moved to Grass Valley, California, and lived there for years with her son Clifford and his wife Edith.  She was a patient at Nevada General Hospital for the two and a half years before her death on 15 Jan 1968.

Carrie was buried back in the IOOF Cemetery with her husband Frank.  She shares a headstone with Frank, but her name and dates do not appear.
