Notes: The photograph at the right shows Myles in 1935 when he graduated from Napa High
School at age 18. As captain of the Napa High football team, he earned a
scholarship to Marin College. After graduation, he worked for the Berglund
Tractor Company. Myles joined the U.S. Navy in 1940 and was a Petty Officer Third Class (see the photograph below). He served on the U.S.S. Enterprise aircraft carrier from October 1941 to December 1944 as a medical corpsman — both before and during World War II. The Enterprise engaged in 18 major actions in the Pacific. Myles told of the very disturbing times when, during the heat of battle, he had to take the dog tags off of dead men and push their bodies overboard. Over 300 men from the Enterprise were killed in action or line-of-duty by the time of Myles departure at the end of 1944. Myles later resumed work with Berglund and was equipment manager when he retired in 1981. Myles was a communicant member of the Faith Lutheran Church of Napa. He enjoyed the outdoors and was age 67 and seven months when he passed away. He is buried with Martha at Tulocay Tier B, Lot 22, Grave 1. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||
