Notes:  Dorothy attended Lincoln Elementary and Napa Intermediate schools.  She graduated with honors from Napa High in 1936, one year early due to her academic excellence.  After graduation Dorothy took a summer job at Lokoya Lodge where she met her husband to be, Donald Arruda.  They married in 1941 and had 3 daughters.  Donald died in 1969.

In 1971 Dorothy married Edward Soderholm.  Their marriage lasted for 35 years and together they provided a place for many family gatherings and treasured family memories.

Dorothy enjoyed working on many creative and community activities.  Her top five activities were:

  1. making quilts.  A favorite pastime, she made numerous hand-stitched quilts for family and friends.
  2. being a Charter and Lifetime member of the Napa Valley Horsemen’s Association.
  3. being very active with the Napa Historical Society where she served as president for 5 years and volunteered over 3,500 hours.
  4. devoting much of her time, while her daughters were growing up, as a leader of the Mt. George 4H club.
  5. being the secretary at Mt. George Elementary School.  There she was able to use her excellent secretarial skills and her kind and caring ways with the students.
Dorothy's most treasured gift was her family.  Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the loves of her life.  Dorothy was survived by her daughters, grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.  Her parents, sister Marjorie, and husbands Donald Arruda and Edward Soderholm predeceased her.
