Notes: Nellie was born in 1886 and was the fourth of her parents' 14 children.
They lived in Baxter County, Arkansas, until Nellie was 15, at which time they
moved to Indian Territory by covered wagon to farm cotton and corn — a distance of
approximately 195 to 200 miles — which took them three weeks. Nellie's 1st Relationship Record has a detailed account of her life from 1905 until Frank's 1925 death in Napa. The photo at the left shows her during this time. In 1927, Nellie moved with her children to Porterville, California, where some relatives — the Brodies — were located. This was the Great Depression time and work was hard to find. Nellie, however, moved to Visalia and found a steady job at the county hospital. And she had an affair with a man from Ohio in 1930 that produced a son. In 1931, Nellie moved with her children back to Napa. Nellie went to work at various places, including Bess Williams' Green Lantern — which was near where she lived on Pine Street. She then found work at the Napa County Hospital and stayed there until she retired at age 70 in 1956. The photo at the right shows Nellie circa 1939. In the meantime she took up flying to Oklahoma and in 1948 took her first trip on a prop jet airplane. In 1958, she bought her first mobile home and lived in the same place for most of the rest of her life. Nellie lived to be 105 years old and in her latter years resided with her daughter Jewel Pritchard in Stockton. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||
