Notes:  When Jacob was a small boy, his parents emigrated to Highland County, Ohio.  He married Rachel there in March 1841 and that same year moved to Huntington County, Indiana. In 1857 Jacob moved to Liberty Township in Wells County, Indiana, and bought 159 acres of farm land that included the Mendenhall Cemetery on it.  With that purchase, the cemetery was renamed the McFarren Cemetery.  In 1860 Jacob estimated that his real estate was worth $4,000 and his personal estate was worth $500.  Jacob spent the rest of his life in Liberty Township. Jacob passed on at age 76.  He has a large gray marble upright monument (shown at the right) commemorating him and his two wives:  Rachel and Emily.  Because of the poor condition of the monument, we provide at the far right a sketch of that gives the monument's text.
