Notes: Natalie C. Beland was born 3 Dec 1923 in Concordia, Cloud, Kansas. She was the youngest of
five children of Ronald Donald Beland and Mary Winifred Dopp. In the 1925 Kansas State Census, Natalie, 1,
was living with her parents, Ronald D. Beland, 30, and Mary, 27, in Arion, Cloud, Kansas. Her siblings were
Armond, 6, Arthur, 5, Marie, 3, and Henrietta, 2. In the 1930 U.S. census, Natalie, 6, was living with her parents, Ronald D. Beland, 36, and Mary, 33, in Clatskania, Colunbia, Oregon. Her father was a farmer, working on his own account, and their home was rented for $12.50 mo. They did not have a radio set. Her siblings were Armond, 11, Arthur, 10, Marie 8, and Henrietta, 6. In 1935 her family was living in San Francisco, California. In the 1940 U.S. census, Natalie, 16, was living with her parents, Ronald Beland, 47, and Mary, 43, in a rented home at 405 Coombs Street, Napa, Napa, California. Natalie, a student, had completed 2 years of high school, and was a part time clerk in a bakery. Her siblings still at home were Arthur, 20, a student, Alice, 18, a maid, and Henrietta 17, a caregiver. Natalie and her sister Henrietta were members of the St. Cecelia Junior Young Ladies Institute. Natalie was an accomplished speaker, giving monologues at social gatherings, and Henrietta was an accomplished tap dancer. Natalie was sergeant of arms one year and Henrietta was treasurer one year. Natalie and Henrietta attended Napa Union High school and were active in the Girls Athletic Association. Natalie played volleyball and softball. In 1940 she participated in the state-wide public speaking contest for high school students. Natalie was also active in student body affairs and during her senior year she was the head yell leader, and the head of the Girl's League. She graduated that year in 1941. In May 1943, Natalie announced her engagement to Milton McDermott. They were married on Sunday, 12 Sep 1943, in a nuptial mass in the Napa Catholic Church. Milton was an employee of the Mare Island Navy Yard. Natalie made a trip to San Diego to visit Milton in Jul 1944, when he was serving in the Naval Reserve. In 1947 they were living at 2230 Georgia, Napa. In the 1950 U.S. census, Natalie C. Beland, 26, and Milton M., 30, were living at 1153 Jefferson Street, Napa. Milton was a ship fitter at the US Naval Shipyard. Their children were Martin M., 4, and Cary T., 3. They later had one more child, Michael. Natalie was active in the Napa community. She was a member of the Junior Women's New Century Club; John's Mothers Club, serving as a first-grade room mother in 1953 and vice-president in 1959; and the Women's Auxiliary of the Napa County Medical Society, serving as a captain in the 1954 March of Dimes; and assisting in planning the 1961 twenty-year class reunion. In the 1966 Napa City Directory, Natalie and Milton were listed as living at 170 W. 226-2464, Napa. It was about this time that their marriage ended. Natalie married Terence Vincent Greville, date unknown. He died in 1973. In 1975 Natalie C. Greville is listed as the widow of Terence V., in the Honolulu, Hawaii City Directory, residence at 650 Keolu Dr., Kailua. On 21 Feb 1976, Natalie C. Greville married Robert Irving Bachrach in a religious ceremony in Clark County, Nevada. Both were residents of Hawaii. Robert was a retired pilot with Aloha Airlines, and a World War II decorated veteran. In 1993, Natalie C. Bachrach is listed at 35 Kai Nani Pi, Kailua. Robert died in July 1997. Natalie died 14 Aug 2010. Her obituary states place of death as Hawaii. The S.S. records have her last known residence was Napa, Napa, California. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
