Notes: John and Susan met in 1865 when they were about 28 years old and soon after
John had immigrated from Barvaria. They shared a European heritage
— as both had German fathers and German or French mothers.
They married that same year 1865 probably in Michigan. The place and date of birth of their first born is not known. That child did not survive to 1880. John and Susan were in Texas and probably in Houston when their next three children were born: Mathulda in 1875, Otto in 1877, and Matilda in 1879. John and Susan moved their family to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, by 1880. They were also in Louisiana in 1881 when their daughter Mamie was born. John and his family next moved west to Napa, California, between 1881 and 1900. They and their surviving children were there in 1900. Daughter Mathulda did not survive to 1900. John probably passed on in Napa or Vallejo after 1900 and before April 1910 — because the 1910 census reported that Susan was a widow living in Vallejo. | ||||||||||||||||
