Two original 5"x 8" handwritten ancestry cards transcribed by Dan Hancock
during live one-on-one interviews with his grandmother
Bess McFarren Williams during the 1950s. One card was on Bess's maternal grandfather John Harding Ellison. The other card was on Jane Elizabeth (Ellison), who Bess remembered to be her maternal grandmother. [However, Dan's later research determined that Bess's maternal grandmother was actually named Sarah Elizabeth McCord (Ellison).] Bess stated that John Harding's father was Henry Ellison (born Kentucky)and that his mother was Rebecca Harrell (born Kentucky). Bess also said that John Harding was of English descent, his second wife was Jane Elizabeth, and that he was a flag-carrier for some "big wig" on the Union side of the Civil War. Later he was a minister in the Freewill Babtist Church in Little Rock?, Arkansas. He got a pension for his eye which was shot out so he never took money for his preaching. He was married twice. His first wife died when Aunt Leona was born -- date ? Then he married my grandmother and they had two girls -- Aunt Joe who was two years older than my mother and then my mother Rebecca Jane. Come to think about it I believe J. H. Ellison lived in Little Rock or Lamar Arkansas at the time of his demise. The date is about right. I heard thru my mother and that was when I lived at the Veterans Home in 1919. I'm sure. | ||||
