Newspapers.com. The Napa Valley Register (Napa, California) - Wed. Jun 3, 1987. p. 6, Col. 1. Stewart Duhig Mr. Duhig was born on Jan. 1, 1905, to Morton and Isabelle Harris Duhig. The Harris family settled on Atlas Peak in 1856. The Duhig family settled in the Carneros-Fly District in 1853. Mr. Duhig attended the old Fly District school and was a 1923 graduate of Napa High School. Mr. Duhig worked in the Hume and Central logging camps in Sanger. In 1933, he joined Gilmore Oil Co., now Mobile Oil, in Napa. He married Viola Williams at the First United Methodist Church in Napa in 1942. Mr. Duhig opened the Duhig Tire Shop in Napa in 1942 and operated it until 1962. He worked for Barwick Motors and its predecessor, Warner Motors, from 1962 until retiring in 1984. Mr. Duhig was a well-known personality on the KVON "Doubletalk" radio program and wrote a history of the Carneros-Las Amigas area, which will be published soon. He was a past director of the Napa Historical Society and was recently honored for his contributions to the organization. Mr. Duhig was a past director of the Napa County Farm Bureau Association; a member of the board of directors of the Napa Valley Garden Club; a past district deputy grand master and longtime member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, Napa Lodge 18. He also was a member of the Napa County Native Plant Society, an 18-year member of the Carneros 4-H Club, the first in Napa; president of the Los Posadas Five-County Camp Board of Directors; a charter member and first president of the Napa Motorcycle Club and was associated with the First Presbyterian Church of Napa. Mr. Duhig is survived by his wife, Viola; and son Jim S., of Napa; a daughter, Patty D. Bunker, of Concord; a stepson, Daniel Hancock, of Culver City; and two grandsons. A memorial service will be conducted at 7 pm. Thursday at the First Presbyterian Church of Napa, 1333 Third St. The Rev. Erwin E. Bollinger will officiate and Ed Barwick will participate. Burial was private in the family lot under the direction of Treadway and Wigger Funeral Chapel.
