Mr. Rath was born on Dec. 27, 1916, in Minnesota. He served his country in World War II as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force. A graduate of Petaluma High School, Mr. Rath worked in the grocery business for many years, as owner of Silverado Market, and later as store manager for Vallerga's Markets. As a charter member of Napa Valley Country Club, Mr. Rath was an avid golfer for many years, and later enjoyed gardening. Mr. Rath is survived by his loving wife, Dodie, and daughters Linda J. Scott of Napa, Peggy J. Della Maggiora of Rohnert Park, Gayle Belanger of Vacaville, Donna Ingram of Mesa, Ariz., and Judy Bartlett of Cotati. He is also survived by his brother, Gary Rath of Sunnyvale; a sister, Shirley Neilsen of Napa; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at Treadway and Wigger Funeral Chapel, 623 Coombs St., on Friday at 2 p.m. The Rev. Erwin W. Bollinger, pastor emeritus of Napa's First Presbyterian Church, will officiate. Inurnment will be private.
