William Rumble Passes Away at Age of 87 Years; Was Prominent in Napa S.A.
William Frederick Rumble, 87, who had been actively identified with the Salvation Armyin Napa for three score years, died early this week at the home of his son, Irvin Rumble, at 1525 A street.  Death was due to the infirmities of his age.
Born in Kalamazoo, Michigan, Mr. Rumble came to California in 1883, and located at Sonoma with his uncle, the late Obie Chart, who at that time owned the property on which the Presidio of California was located.
The following year he moved to Napa, where he had resided continuously since.  The family home, one of the first built in the Spencer district, was built by Mr. Rumble.  Throughout most of his lifetime he followed the occupation of carpenter and lather, finally retiring from active work only after he passed his 80th birthday.
A devout Christian, Mr. Rumble became affiliated with the Salvation Army more than 60 years ago.
His wife preceded him in death last year.  He was the father of Irwin W. Rumble and John W. Rumble of Napa, and Everett Rumble of Long Beach, and of the late Ernest Rumble who died in World War I, the late Miss Jessie Rumble of Napa, and Mrs. Bertha Martin of Vallejo.  He also leaves eleven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
