Will
I John Ritchie of the County of Buchanan in the State of Missouri do make and publish this my last will and testament in manner and from following that is to say

First it is my will that my funeral expences and ? and all my just debts be fully paid.
Second I give devise and bequath to my beloved wife Elizabeth Ritchie in lieu of her dower the plantations on which we now reside situated in Buchanan county, Mo., containing about one hundred and sixty acres during her natural life and all the live stock horses cattle sheep hogs by me now owned and kept thereon.  Also all the household furnature and other items not particularly named and otherwise desposed of in this will during her natural life as aforesaid.  She however first disposing of a sufficincy thereof to pay my just debts as aforesaid and that at the death of my said wife all the property thereby devised on bequeathed to her as aforesaid or so much thereof as may their remain unexpended to be expended in the following manner among my living children first it is my will that my son William H. Ritchie first have one hundred dollars then the balance to be equally divided among them the said Wm. H. Ritchie is to have his equal share exclusive of the above named sum and lastly I hereby constitute and appoint my wife and my son William H. Ritchie to be the executors to this my last will and testament revoking and annuling all former wills by me made and notifying and confirming this and no other to be my last will and testament.

In testimony whenof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this the 23 day Sept. 1845 (signature and signed) pubished and declared by the above named John Ritchie as and for his last will and testament in presence of us who at his request have signed as witnesses to the same.

State of Missouri, County of Buchanan ss. Be it remembered that Isaac Norman one of the subscribing witnesses to the foregoing will personally appeared before me William Fowler, clerk of the County Court of said county and being by me duly sworn d??? and says that by request of the above named testator, John Ritchie, he the said Isaac Norman signed said testators name to the foregoing will, which he the said testator published as his last will and that said testator was at the time of signing the same of sound mind and was over the age of twenty one years — and that this ??? attested said will as one of the witnesses thereto by subscribing his name to the same in the presence of the said testator.

Robert McCain one of the subscribing witnesses to the foregoing will bring by me duly sworn deposes and says that he saw Isaac Norman sign the name of John Ritchie the above named testator to the foregoing will by the request of the said testator — that the said testator was at the time of making said will of sound mind and was over the age of twenty one years and that he published said will as his last will and that this de?? attested said will as one of the witnesses ??? by subscribing his name to the same in the prescence of said testator.
Sworn and subscribed before me this 8th day of October 1845 Wm. Fowler, clerk. signed Robert McCain (State of Missouri, County of Buchanan, etc.)  Wm. Fowler approved the will.
