Notes: In late November, Johann George and Sophia Staheli arrived in Santa Clara, Utah,
to begin their new life in America. Johann George took the name George in the
new country. They arrived with their five children, their youngest Sophia having
died at sea, shortly before their arrival in New York. Their first home was in an
upper room in the Fort. Their youngest child, Barbara, was born Christmas Day
1861. "The Big Flood" arrived about 12 Jan 1862, washing away the Fort,
and causing the rescue of the children, and Sophia with the baby. Sophia died
3 Jun 1862. |
