Notes: In 1885, Jerome and Alice Curtain, with their three children, left Ohio and moved to
Southern California. In the 1900 USA census, the family was living at 937
Francisco Street in downtown Los Angeles. They owned their home with a
mortgage. Jerome was a
'solicitor collector'. Alice had no occupation, and the census shows that she
had had one additional child that had not survived. Their daughter Louise,
age 29, was a school teacher. Their son Napoleon, age 27, was a
window 'drafer' for a dry goods store. Milton, age 25, was a salesman for
a dry goods store. This was probably the J. W. Robinson Co., a department
store.
In the 1910 USA census, Jerome was reported as a salesman for a lumber company.
Louise was still teaching in the public schools, and Napolean had left the family
home. Milton had married Doris Hildebrand in 1909, and the couple were living
with his family. Milton was now a salesman for the department store. |
