Notes: In the 1930 U.S. census, Peter and Anna Aalgaard were living on a farm in
Greenfield Twp., Griggs, North Dakota. Peter, 49, born in Norway, had
immigrated to the the United States in 1903, was a naturalized citizen, and
was a farmer. Anna, 37, had been born in North Dakota. Her father,
Einar O. Stromme, 83, was living with the family. He had been born in
Norway, had immigrated to the United States in 1870, and was a naturalized citizen.
The children, all born in North Dakota, included Rosi, 19, Erling, 17, working on
the farm, Pete, 16, working on the farm, Margaret, 13, Leonard, 12, Rachel, 8,
Stella, 6, Selmar, 4, and Robert, 2 years. The family had a radio.
By the 1940 U.S. census, Peter and Anna had moved into the Village of Hannaford.
Peter, 59, was working on a gravel project for the W.P.A., and had 2 years of high
school. Anna, 37, had a 6th grade education. [Note the ten year difference
in age between the two census records.]
The children still at home were Rachel, 18, 3 years of high school, Stella, 16,
1 year of high school, Selmer, 14, 8th grade, and Robert, 12, 5th grade.
Their last son was Alfred, 6 years, 1st grade. The family was renting their
home for $12. per month. |
