Notes: William Henry Sansburn was born in 1866 in Ontario, Canada, and settled in
Griggs County, North Dakota in 1892. Harriet Ida Glaspell was born in Ontario,
Canada in 1874, and came to North Dakota with her parents in 1889. William
and Harriet were married 17 Mar 1897 in Cooperstown, Griggs, North Dakota.
In the 1900 U.S. census, William, 33, and Ida, 26, were living on their farm in Tyrol Twp.,
Griggs, North Dakota. They had a daughter Gertrud, age 1. Also living in
the household was Emil Magnuson, 21, a farm laborer.
In the 1920 U.S. census, William, 43, and Ida were listed as grain farmers. Gertrude,
11, had sisters, including Dorothy E., 9, Willas, 5, and a brother Maynard, 3. Also
living with the family was Eimer Bardal, 22, a farm laborer. The family is all
together in the 1915 and 1925 North Dakota censuses. They are not found in the
1920 U.S. census.
According to the Griggs County Heritage, William Sansburn
was a farmer and a breeder of Clydesdale Horses. He served as assessor for three years,
school clerk 15 years, and as Postmaster for 5 years. |
