Notes: In 1936, Harold and Gertrude Detwiller, with their son Andrew, moved from Tyrol Twp., Griggs,
North Dakota to Wisconsin. In the 1940 U.S. census, Harold, 36, Gertrude, 41, and
Andrew, 12, were living in *Downsville, Dunn, Wisconsin. Harold was farming on
his own account. Living with the family was Clarence Rudd, 24, a farm laborer.
At some point in time, the family moved to Menomonie, the capital of Dunn County,where
where Harold worked for Farmers Union Oil Co, for many years, before retiring.
Their son Andrew died of spinal cancer in 1943, at the age of fifteen. Gertrude died in
1949, and Harold in 1975. All are buried in the Froens Cemetery, Menomonie, Wisconsin.
*Downsville is an unincorporated census-designated place in the Town of Dunn, in Dunn
County. The community was founded at a crossing of the Red Cedar River in 1855. |
