Notes: In the 1910 U.S. census, Edwin M. McKain, 45, born in Iowa, and his wife, Mary A.
McKain, 38, born in Indiana, were living in Logan Twp., Ottawa, Kansas. Edwin
was a general farmer, farming on his own account, and renting. Edwin and Mary
had been married 21 years, and Mary had had nine children, eight of whom were
living. The children, all born in Kansas, were Charles R., 20, farm laborer,
Robert E. 18, farm laborer, Jesse W., 16, farm laborer, Everett L., 14, farm laborer,
Ernest E., 10, Janie E. 8, Arthur W., 5, and Virgil E., 3. Jessie, Everett,
Ernest and Janie had attended school the past year.
In the 1915 Kansas State census, Logan Twp., Ottawa County, Ed McKain, 50, was still
farming. Alice, 44, had had two additional children. The children still
at home were Ross, 25, ag laborer, Ernest, 15, Jennie, 12, Wesely, 9, Virgil, 7,
Archie, 3, and Clyde, 1. Ernest, Jennie, Wesely, and Virgil had attended school
in the past year.
In the 1920 U.S. census, Logan Twp., Ed M., 55, general farming and
renting, and Mary A., 49, had six children living at home. These were Ernest E., 20,
Jennie E., 17, Wesley A., 15, Virgil E., 12, Archie R., 9, and Clyd C., 6.
All but Ernest had attended school.
In the 1925 Kansas State census, Logan Twp., Ed, 60, was still farming and renting,
with his wife Alice, 54. The children at home included Jennie L., 22, a teacher,
Virgil E., 17, Archie R., 13, and Clyde C., age not given. The children had all
attended school.
Edwin and Mary, along with most of their children, are buried in the
Delphos Cemetery, Delphos, Kansas. |
