Notes: In the 1910 U.S. census, Fred W. Maelzer, 25, and his wife, Mable Maelzer, 23, both
born in Kansas, were living in Neuchaetel Twp., Nemaha, Kansas. Fred was a general farmer,
renting. Fred and Mable had been married four years. Mable had had two children, both
of whom were living. These were Amelia [Aurelia], 3, and William, 1, both born in Kansas.
Enumerated with the family was Clarence Dodds, 18, a farm hand.
In the 1915 Kansas census, Neuchaetel Twp., F. W. Melzer, 30, and Mable E. Melzer, are enumerated with
three children. These were Aurelia L., 7, William J., 6, and Freida L., 4. Living with the
family were G. J. Mealzer, 69, and Elizabeth Mealzer, 67, both born in Germany, and possible the parents of
Fred. Fred was farming, Mable doing Housework, and G.J. and Elizabeth were retired.
The family is not found in the 1920 U.S. census. In the 1925 Kansas census, F. W. Maelzer, 40, and
Mable, 38, were farming in Scott Twp., Scott, Kansas. The children at home were William, 16,
Freida, 14, and Zadie, 8. Aurelia had died in 1923.
In the 1930 U.S. census, Fred W. Maelzer, 45, and Mabel E. Maelzer, 43, were renting and farming
in Logan Twp., Ottawa, Kansas. The family did not have a radio. Their son, William J.,
21, was a farm laborer, and daughters Freida L., 18, and Zadie D., 13, had no occupations.
Mabel Etta Maelzer died in 1948, and Frederick W. Maelzer died in 1957. They are buried in the
Milo Cemetery, Barnard, Lincoln, Kansas. Their daughter Aurelia,
and son William and wife are buried there also. |
