Notes: Hans Johansen was born 2 Jan 1843 in Straerup, Baag, Odense, Denmark. He was the
middle child of five children born to Johan Jergensen and Dorthe Hansdatter. The
family moved to Søllested parish in 1848. In 1861, Hans moved from Søllested to Flemløse; in 1863 from Flemløse to Kjøng; in 1866, from Kjøng to Søllested and back to Kjøng. He fathered a a daughter with Maren Kirstine Jensen, an unmarried woman. Dorthea Hansen was born 12 Dec 1866 in Kjøng, Baag, Odense, Denmark. According to family members [Source 524], Hans Johansen came to the United States when he was about 20 years old. This was probably when he was about 23 years old, after his return to Køng, and the birth of his daughter. He was a blacksmith and was single. [Hans had trained as a blacksmith with his step-grandfather, Hans Jensen.] He returned to Denmark within 10 years. According to the 1880 Danish census, [abstracted in Sources 1393 and 1423], Hans Johansen, 34, Dorthea, 13, his father Johan Jørgensen, 71, and a housekeeper Anne Kirstine Jakobsen, 41, were living in Søllested, Odense, Denmark. On 10 Sep 1881, Hans married Maren Rasmusdatter in the Søllested Kirke, Søllested. They had 13 children, half-brothers and half-sisters to Dorthea. They were all born in Søllested. Hans died in Søllested on 8 Jan 1923. He was buried in the Søllested Kirkegaard on 13 Jan 1923. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
