Notes:  Robert Hudson Ballard (Bob) was born 23 Sep 1913 in New York.  His parents were John H. Ballard and Myrtle Stanley.  He had a brother Stanley, five years older.  In 1920, the family was living on Lowland Drive in Orangetown, New York.  His father was a "clergyman for a religious movement".  Family members report that he was a Presbyterian minister.  Bob's maternal grandmother, Charlotte Stanley was living with the family.
Notes:  Bob moved west with his family, and in 1930 they were living at 2475 Ridgeview Avenue in the Eagle Rock area of Los Angeles, California.  His father was now teaching at a college.  This was probably Occidental College, a Presbyterian College in Eagle Rock.  Living with the family was a Canadin aviator, Thomas Wilkinson.

Bob attended Occidental College, where he met his wife Mary Elizabeth Noble (Betty).  They were married 19 Jan 1936 in the music chapel at Occidental.  His father, Dr. J. Hudson Ballard, officiated, and their mothers were witnesses.  Their first home was with her parents at 1934 Tamarind Avenue in the Hollywood area of Los Angeles.  They were registered to vote as Republicans, and Bob's occupation was musician.

In the 1940 U.S. census, Bob and Betty were living in their own home at 4229 Farmdale Avenue, Los Angeles.  Their son and daughter were born while they were here.  Bob was a musician in the radio industry, and had earned $3,700. in the prior year.  He had three years of college.

By 1950, the voter registration records list Bob and Betty as living at 18821 Erwin Street, Los Angeles.  At the time this was "horse country", and their property was called a ranch.  The Van Nuys News reports the participation of Bob and Betty in the Tarzana Horsemen's Association, which was formed in 1950.  Bob served on the Board of Directors, and was President in 1950.  His wife Betty was Corresponding Secretary the following year.

Bob was a musician, and was a musical arranger for the Lawrence Welk Band from 1973 to 1982.  In later years, Bob had a ranch in Murrietta, Riverside County, California, called the Fly B Ranch.  He died 2 May 1992 in Riverside County.  His wife Betty had died in 1984 and was buried in the Pomona Cemetery, Pomona, California.  It is presumed that he is buried in the Pomona Cemetery with his wife.
