Russell McNaught was born 29 Mar 1884 in West Monkton, Grey Twp., Huron, Ontario.
His parents were Henry Alexander McNaught and Rebecca Dunn Detwiller. He grew up on
the family farm known as Deerbank. He had an older sister Alberta (Bert), born
in 1882, and younger siblings David Vernon born in 1885, Minnie Ethel in 1888, Harry
Lorne in 1889, all recorded in the 1891 Canadian census records. His brother
James Ferguson was born later in 1891, followed by Ida Beth in 1896, and Sarah Mildred
in 1899. The 1901 census shows the entire family together. Sarah died
later in 1901, just short of her second birthday. In 1901, Russell was living with his Detwiller aunts and uncles in Jamestown, New York. He was an apprentice jeweler at 7 East Third, living over the residence of his Aunt Marion Detwiller at 114 West Eighth, Jamestown. According to family records, Russell married Mabel McCaw on 25 Sep 1907 in Port Huron, St. Clair, Michigan. The census sources record that she immigrated to Canada in 1907, the year of her marriage to Russell, and became a naturalized Canadian citizen. Russell and Mabel made their home in the Radisson area of Saskatchewan. Russell was a jeweler. They had three children. Evelyn Elizabeth was born 20 Mar 1909, Harvey Henry Russell on 22 Aug 1912, and Grace Alberta on 24 Feb 1918. Grace died 7 Mar 1918. In the 1921 Canada census, the family was living on Alexander Street, Radisson, in a 5 room wooden house. According to family reports, Mabel died 15 Dec 1926 in Radisson, Saskatchewan. Russell lived to 26 Sep 1944. Their burial place is unknown. | ||||
