Notes: Dorothy Daisy Smith was born 2 Feb 1912 in Ottawa County, Kansas.
Her parents were Horace True Smith and Elizabeth Jane Haley. Her six older siblings were
Rupert, born in Nov 1898, Ruth, Jul 1901, Florence, Jun 1903, Esther, Aug 1905, Lester,
Feb 1908, and Gertrude, Feb 1910. In the 1915 Kansas census, the family was living in Sheridan Twp., Ottawa, Kansas. Her father Horace was a grain farmer. In the 1920 U.S. census, Sheridan Twp., the children at home were Florence, 16, Esther, 14, Lester, 11, Gertrude, 9, and Dorothy, 7, all in school. In the 1925 U.S. census, Logan Twp., Dorothy's sister Florence was teaching school, and the younger children were in school. In the 1930 U.S. census, Esther was a saleswoman in general merchandise, Lester a laborer and farmer, Gertrude, a public school teacher, and Dorothy was in school. Dorothy married William Jennings Maelzer on 1 Dec 1934. In the 1940 U.S. census, Dorothy and William were living in Meredith Twp., Cloud, Kansas. Dorothy had completed 3 years of high school. William was a farmer. In 1967, the couple was living eight miles east of Delphos, and were raising and selling bloodhounds and Blue Tick 'coon dogs as pets. Dorothy moved to the Delphos Rest Home in 1977 where she spent her remaining years. The couple had no children. Dorothy's husband William died 13 Oct 1982. Dorothy died 11 May 1991 at the Ashbury-Salina Regional Medical Center, Salina, Saline, Kansas. Her funeral service was held 15 May 1991 at the Shields Funeral Home, Minneapolis, Kansas, the Rev. James Flick officiating. She is buried with her husband in the Milo Cemetery, Barnard, Kansas. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||
