Notes:  Howard Lee Henderson was born 6 Aug 1901 in Jewel County, Kansas.  His parents were William P. Henderson and Clara Sanders.  In the 1910 U.S. census, his family was living in Garfield Twp., Smith, Kansas.  It included his father, W. P. Henderson, 42, a farmer, who owned the farm with a mortage, and his mother, Clara Henderson, 37, who had had seven children, all then living.  His parents had been married 18 years and were both born in Iowa.  The children had all been born in Kansas, and included Robert, 16, Lily, 15, Arthur, 13, Walter, 10, Howard, 8, Earl, 6, and Everett, 1.

In the 1915 Kansas State census, the family was renting a house in Alton, Osborne, Kansas.  The family included his parents, W.P. Henderson, 47, laborer, and Clara Henderson, 42.  The children at home were Lillie, 20, Arthur, 18, laborer, Walter, 16, laborer, Howard, 13, in school, Earl, 11, in school, and Everett, 6, in school.

In the 1920 U.S. census, the family was renting in Downs City, Osborne, Kansas.  William P. Henderson, 50, was now a widow, and was a drayman for the city.  The only children at home were Howard, 17, Earle, 16, and Everett, 11, all in school.

Howard married Velna Violet Smith about 1925 or 1926, probably in Kansas.  In November 1926, when her mother died, the couple was living in Quenemo, Osage, Kansas.  In the 1930 U.S. census, the couple was living at 502 Indiana St., Holton City, Jackson, Kansas.  Howard was a wire chief for the telephone company.  His father Will P. Henderson, 62, was living with them.  There were no children, and the marriage ended in divorce before 1937.

Marriage Certificate, Howard L. Henderson, Alma H. Mitschele Howard married Alma H. Mitschele on 4 Jul 1937 in Pocahontas, Pocahontas, Iowa.  At the time he was 37 years, a baker, and a resident of St. Louis, Missouri.  His bride, born in Butler County, Missouri, to Andrew Mitschele and Frances Miller, was 30 years and a resident of Chicago, Illinois.  They were married by D.M. Simpson, minister of the M.E. Church.

In the 1940 U.S. census, Howard, 38, and Alma, 32, were living at 5809 Brookbend Lane in Mission Hills, Mission Twp., Johnson, Kansas.  They were living in the residence of James C. and Margaret Shepard, as houseman and house maid.  They both had four years of high school, and had both earned $420. in 1939.

Alma died 30 Apr 1990, and Howard died 16 Feb 1993.  Their last residence being Shelbina, Shelby, Missouri.  They are buried in Emden Memorial Gardens, Emden, Shelby. Missouri.
