Notes: Ernest Walter Hollinshead was born 16 May 1886 in Ontario, Canada, to Edward Hollinshead
and Susan Detwiller. He had an older sister Ina, born in 1879, and an older brother
Horace born in 1882. The family moved to Wisconsin in 1887, and a
younger sister Marian was born in 1894. His father Edward, who was a river captain,
died in 1896 in Trempealeau, Wisconsin. In the 1900 U.S. census, Ernest was living with his mother, Horace, and Marian in Trempealeau. Earnest was going to school. His mother Susan died in 1901. Little more is known about Ernest. In 1918 when he registered for the World War I draft, he was working as a thresher for Dan Cadigan in Pillsbury, Ellsbury Twp., Barnes County, North Dakota. He was described as being of medium height and build, with blue eyes and brown hair. He named his older sister Ina Crait, living in Seattle, Washington, as his nearest relative.
