Notes: Wilford Roy Strome was born 21 Sep 1902 in Alexander, Manitoba, Canada. He was
the second child of Astor Sands Strome and Julia Maud Detwiller. His older sister Myrtle
was born in 1900 in Brandon, Manitoba, and his younger brother Harvey in 1904 in R.M. of Daly,
Manitoba. In the 1906 Manitoba census, the family was living on Sec. 14, Twp. 8, R. 21, W1, with a Souris P.O., Manitoba. Astor was a farmer, and the family had 7 horses and 2 milk cows. Shortly after the 1906 Canada census, the family moved to Saskatchewan, where they homesteaded on Sec. 32, Twp. 37, Range 19 W2, on the road to Englefeld. Wilford's sister Bertha was born in 1909, and sister Eva in 1911. In the 1911 Canada census, Humbolt Twp., Saskatchewan, the family is enumerated on their homestead. Wilford's brother Nelson (Bud) was born in 1913, and brother Frank in 1915. In the 1916 Saskatchewan census, Humbolt Twp., their farm (same) is identified as being in St. Peters Municipality. Wilford's sister Minnie was born in 1917. By the 1921 Canada census, Harvey had left home. Wilford's sister Dorothy was born in 1921, and brother James in 1926. According to A History of Englefeld, 1903 - 1987, the family homestead was located at Greenside, and the children attended the Greenside School. Wilford married Alvina Charlotte Wolfe of Three Hills, Alberta, some time before 1945. In 1945. and 1949, they are listed in the Canada Voters Lists in Red Deer, Alberta. Wilford was a farmer. His brother Harvey and his wife are also listed in Red Deer, in 1945 only. In 1953, Wilford and Alvina are listed in Bow River, Alberta, farming. In 1962, their residence is listed as 2011 46th Avenue S.W., City of Calgary, Alberta. Wilford was a laborer, and Alvina a domestic. In 1963, same address, Wilford is a maintenance man, and Alvina a ward aide. Wilford died 21 Jan 1975 in Burnaby, British Columbia. He is buried in the Sundre Cemetery, Sundre, Calgary Census Division, Alberta. His wife died in 2010, and is buried there also. | ||||||||||||||||||||||
