Notes: The marriage of Bethuel Baldwin and Nancy Van Houten was reported in
The Sentinel of Freedom, Newark, New Jersey, on 11 Feb 1800. He
was from Caldwell, Essex, and she was from Morris County. In 1810,
Bethuel is listed in the August Tax List in Newark Township, Essex, New Jersey.
According to the Baldwin genealogy, they had nine children, as listed below.
Bethuel was a tanner. In the 1840 U.S. census, he is listed as living in
Newark North Ward, Essex, New Jersey, along with presumably his wife Nancy, and two
sons, one presumably George. The three men were engaged in "manufacture or
trade". Their daughter Abby married John H. Richardson on 1 Jan 1850 in
Norkfolk, Massaschusetts. Bethuel does not appear in the 1850 U.S. census,
and has presumably died.
In the 1850 and 1860 U.S. census records, Nancy is living with the family of their son
George Baldwin. She does not appear in the 1870 U.S. census records, and has
presumably died. Their burial place is unknown. |
