Notes: Alexander Detwiller (Alex) married Margaret McNab on 28 Dec 1908 in Griggs County.
Their wedding photograph is seen at the right. Their only child, Duncan Alexander,
was born 13 Jan 1910. The three of them are found in the 1910 and 1920 USA census
records in Tyrol Twp., Griggs, and the 1915 North Dakota census records. Alex is
listed as being a grain farmer. The farm, which he owned, was located 5½
miles north of Cooperstown.
Duncan died of pneumonia on 1 Feb 1924, at the age of 14 years. Sometime after
this, Alex had a stroke, and suffered more than two years with various related
illnesses. The last six months of his life were spent in a chair. He died
of a cerebral embolism on 26 Nov 1927, at the home of
Robert Pratt. Funeral services were held 28 Nov 1924 at the Masonic Temple,
conducted by members of the Masonic Order, of which he was a member.
Margaret moved to Springfield, Massachusetts in 1938, where her sister Janet (Mrs.
Janet M. Madsen) lived. Note that either before her marriage to Alex, or after his
death, she may have lived in Fromberg, Montana.
Margaret died 4 Aug 1964 in Springfield Massachusetts. Her funeral was held at the
Byron funeral home, Irving G. Wickman conducting a Christian Science rite. She was
buried in the Cooperstown Cemetery, North Dakota,
alongside her husband and son. |
