Notes: Gounod Romandy, 26, and Marguerite Bitter, 21, were married 11 Aug 1919, in the home of the
pastor. Afterwards a reception was held in a local banquet room. At the time,
Gounod was the concert master at Grauman's Theater, and Marguerite was a composer and pianist.
After a wedding trip to San Francisco the couple went to live with her parents.
In the 1920 USA census, Gounod, 26, and Margarite J., 21, were
living with her parents, Lawrence, 45, and Louise Bitter, 43, at 1221 Colton Street, Los Angeles,
California. Gounod was a concert violinist and Lawrence was a engraver for a
lithograph company. In the 1920 Voter Registration records, Gounod declined
to state a party preference, and Marguerite registered as Republican. The marriage
was a short one, and the couple had no children. They separated 9 Jun 1921.
On 13 Jun, 1922, the newspaper reported their appearance in court when Mauguerite was asking
for attorney fees and costs, and their differences were aired.
Gounod went on to marry Jean Reese, in 1924, and Marguerite went on to marry Arthur Clayton,
in 1927. |
