"A Pleasant Social." Alhambra Advocate, Alhambra, Cal.,
Saturday, January 20, 1900, Vol. 2, No. 16, p. 1, col. 4.
The social given by the Epworth League and Ladie's Aid Society of the M. E. Church at
the residence of T.J. Stuart last Friday evening was very largely attended and a most
successful social affair. There was a short program at the opening. Prof.
Wheat gave one of his pleasing solos, and in response to a hearty encore sang another.
Miss Winnie Osborne favored the company with a fine recitation that was thoroughly
appreciated and very creditable, and gave a second one in response. The male quartette
made their first appearance and their selections were very good. The members were
Clarence Williams, first tenor; Henry Olson, second tenor; Joseph
Winsor, baritone; Harry Lane, bass. A word contest of notable people followed.
Then came refreshments, consisting of fruitade, wafers, sandwiches, olives and nuts.
Miss Georgie Jaques dispensed the fruitaid. A good social time followed during which
several college songs were sung and Henry Olson played violin
solos. |
