"Henry Alexander McNaught" Undated newspaper clipping
found in the Olson/Noble memorabilia. The obituary reads in part: "Following an illness of five years from pernicious anaemia one of the most prominent residents of this district passed away at his home at Monkton on Tuesday morning, Nov. 17. [1937] Mr. McNaught was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John McNaught and was born at Brantford nearly 75 years ago, coming to Grey Township when three years of age, when this country was all woods. The family had to obtain their provisions at Mitchell. For many years he resided on the family homestead, Deerbank Farm. In 1881 he married Rebecca Detwieler by whom he is survived along with a family of seven children, namely: Alberta Mrs. E. Wilson, Monkton; Russell, of Radisson, Saskatchewan; D. Verne, of Burlington, Vt.; Ethel Mrs. J. Flock, of Guelph; Harry Lorne, of Stratford; James Fergus, on the homestead; Beth Mrs. (Rev.) J.T. Heslop, Caledonia. He is also survived by two brothers, James, of Nampa, Idaho, and Joseph Y., of Long Beach, Cal. John, another brother, died in Monkton some years ago. . . .. Mr. McNaught for some time previous to union in 1925 had been an elder of Knox Presbyterian Church, Monkton. For years Sunday school was held in his home with an attendance of from 60 to 70 and as a result a deep impress for good was left on the community. In politics he was a Liberal. He was a capable farmer and one of the best known apiarists of Western Ontario, having devoted himself to bees for over forty years. The funeral will take place from his late home on Thursday afternoon to the Monkton United Church where service will be conducted by Rev. J. A. Gale, B.A. Burial will take place in the family plot at Harvey's Cemetery, Logan. | ||||
