Wednesday, May 16, 1932, p. 5, col. 2. "GOLDFIELD, Nev., May 18 -- (Special). --Victor ("Vic") Maroney, a well known miner and leaser died Monday at his home after a short illness. Mr. Maroney, who was leasing on the Jumbo No. 2, injured himself a week ago by carring a heavy ladder. While in more or less distress, he did not consider his condition serious. Monday he was suddenly taken ill and soon died. He was born in Croatia, Austria, sixty-four years ago. He first came to the United States in 1898 and took out naturalization papers soon after. He made several trips to Croatia, but finally settled in Goldfield in 1914. Several years ago he had a lease on Consolidated ground in Columbia with Russell Boardman, the aviator, who afterwards became world-famous by flying across the Atlantic and landing in Turkey. He was also interested with Heinie Miller, the well-known blind miner, in the Yellow Rose group of claims, situated in Diamond field. He leaves a wife and four children, two daughters, Zora, aged seventeen, and Helen, aged ten years, and two sons, George, aged fifteen, and Willie, aged thirteen, all living in Goldfield. He also leaves two daughters and a son by a former marriage, and a brother in Austria. Funeral services will be held from the Catholic church of which the deceased was a member."
