"Hurricane Club Elects"
      "New officers were elected at a recent meeting of the Hurricane Garden club at the city library building in Hurricane.
      Mrs. Lawrence Isom was named president; Marie Wood, first vice president; Beth Spendlove, secretary and treasurer; Lela Hoyt, publicity chairman; Edith Anderson, May day festival chairman; Ruth Hinton, cemetery cleanup chairman, and Anna Wood, special teacher.
      Meeting of the club are held twice a month in the city library building.  It is planned to have an educational lesson each meeting on some worth-while garden subject.
      The special project of the club is to beautify the cemetery.  This work was started last year under the leadership of the past president Allie Wilson.
      Anyone interested in gardening is invited to become a member of this progressive club, according to Lela Hoyt, publicity chairman."

      ORDERVILLE, Kane County - - Mrs. Ellen Alice Spencer Hoyt, 91, died Tuesday in a St. George hospital of causes incident to age.  Born April 22, 1866, Salt Lake City, to Howard Orson and Louisa Cross Spencer.  Came to Orderville as child.  Married to Josiah Miller Hoyt March 10, 1882, St. George Temple, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  He died Feb. 21, 1904.  Survivors:  sons, daughters, Mrs. Nellie Fackrell, American Falls, Idaho; Israel, Merced, Calif.; Mrs. Edith Henry, Marysvale; Josiah M., Cedar City; Ervin, Orderville; Timothy, Hurricane; Frederick C., Mrs. Annie Cannon, Mrs. Harriet Cox, all St. George.  Funeral Thursday 1 p.m., Orderville LDS Ward chapel.  Friends call Cannon Funeral Home, St. George, Wednesday 7:30 - 9 p.m., residence Thursday after 10 a.m.  Burial Orderville Cemetery."

"Woman Nears 91st Year At Oderville"
"ORDERVILLE, Kane County - - Open house will be held at the home of Mrs. Ellen Alice Spencer Hoyt Sunday to commemorate her 90th birthday anniversary.
      Mrs. Hoyt was born in Salt Lake City, April 22, 1866, a daughter of Howard Orson and Louisa Cross Spencer and granddaughter of Orson Spencer, early chancellor of the University of Utah.
      SHE MOVED to Orderville at the age of nine with her father, who was called by Brigham Young to start the United Order and became the first LDS bishop of Orderville.
      She was married to Josiah Miller Hoyt, March 10, 1882, in the St. George LDS Temple.  They had 11 children; nine living sons and daughters include Mrs. Rudolph P. (Nellie) Fackrell, American Falls, Idaho; Israel Hoyt, Alton; Mrs. John W. (Edith) Henry, Marysvale; Josiah M. Hoyt, Cedar City; Ervin Hoyt, Orderville; Timothy Hoyt, Hurricane; and Frederick C. Holt, Mrs. Ambrose (Annie) Cannon, Mrs. Melvin (Harriet) Cox, all St. George.
      MRS. HOYT'S husband died Feb. 21, 1904, leaving her with nine children to raise with the help of her two older sons.  She worked at housekeeping, and dressmaking at 50 cents a day.
      She was LDS primary president for seven years, Sunday School parents' class teacher for seven years, Relief Society teacher for 45 years, first chaplain of local chapter of Daughters of Pioneers and a teacher in MIA."
