[ http://www.kcsg.com/view/full_story/21439379/article-Marlene-Gubler-Workman] "(St. George, UT) - Marlene Gubler Workman, 81, of Cedar City passed away peacefully Monday, 14 January 2013 at the Kolob Care Center of causes incident to age. She was born 23 June 1931 in Hurricane where she spent her early childhood. After moving to La Verkin with her parents, Lucille Hinton and Harris Gubler, she was a member of the first elementary class that was bussed to school to Hurricane. It was in La Verkin that Marlene welcomed her siblings, Cherrie, Rhanee and Joe. She was helpful at home and her sisters remember her entertaining them along with the neighborhood children with her long, scary, original stories, also the fun times they had staying in the old pioneer cabin on her father’s farm near Kanarraville. She learned to work at an early age in her Grandpa Gubler’s strawberry field, then later picked strawberries and cherries to earn her school clothes. The farmers appreciated her as she didn’t horse around and could out pick most of the other kids. At school she was an excellent student, and while at Hurricane High School gained a love for painting, a talent she continued to develop throughout her life. She won several blue ribbons for her landscapes and flower arrangements, etc., at fairs both in California and Utah. Marlene married Price Ruesch Workman and they lived in northern Utah prior to moving to California where they had four children, mostly raising them in Palmdale, Tehachapi, and Ridgecrest. Later she became a US Postal Service employee for many years. Upon retirement, she and Price returned to southern Utah buying a home in Santa Clara. Here she continued to grow beautiful flowers, roses being her great love. She was an organized, wonderful homemaker, managed her finances well, and made good use of the vegetables Price grew in his garden; sharing with others and canning the surplus for family use. Besides painting, she filled her time with crocheting and writing letters to family and the many friends she made over the years. Marlene was preceded in death by her husband Price; her parents; daughter, Troya Dawn Mecham (& husband Ted); daughter, April Lynn Tucker; son, Warren Brent Workman; and grandson, Brennan Workman. She is survived by her son, Roscoe J. Workman (Denise); granddaughters, Nicole Dawn Burr, Margery Ann Lindsford, and Ruth; grandsons, Heath, Clark, Joseph Tucker, and Dayne Anderson, Kyle Christopher Anderson, and Jessie Alan Workman; sisters Cherrie Naegle (Than), Toquerville; Rhanee Ballard, Washington; and brother Joseph (Dianne), Cedar City; and many nephews and nieces.
