Frederick Detwiller Obituary

Fredrick Detwiller.  Mar. 1, 1938.

Fredrick Detwiller, 58, prominent Griggs county citizen, died suddenly at his farm home 7 miles north of Cooperstown on Monday afternoon of this week, following a two year period of illness culminating in a stroke of the morning of his death.  While Mr. Detwiller's health had been poorly for several months the death came as a surprise to local residents, Mr. Detwiller having visited Cooperstown only the day before his death.

During the past two years he has suffered intermittently with a heart ailment, that affliction confining somewhat his usual activities.  He was striken shortly after breakfast on Monday morning and died at 3:00 that afternoon.

Fred Detwiller was born in St. Mary's, Ont. on Aug 8, 1879, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Detwiller.  With his parents he came to Griggs county in 1886, settling north of Cooperstown, and has made that community his home ever since.  He was married on Mar 15, 1916, to Martha Armstrong, one daughter Lenore, being born, who with his widow survives him.  Two brothers, John and Harry and one sister, Mrs. R.H. Pratt, also survive.

Funeral services will be held at the Masonic Temple on Friday with Rev. C.C. Converse preaching the funeral sermon.  Burial will be made in the local cemetery.

Mr. Detwiller was prominent in many public activities, being director and president of the county fair association for a number of years, president and director of the Griggs Co. Farmers Mutual Fire and Lifhtning Ins. Co., Twp. supervisor and member of the local Masonic and Knights of Phythias lodges.
