ELK MOUND - Clara M. Detwiller, 102, formerly of Elk Mound, died Monday, Feb 25, 2008, at Dove Healthcare
Nursing and Rehabilitation in Eau Claire. Clara was born July 19, 1905, in the town of Lucas, Dunn County. She was the daughter of Charles and Lucy (Haffelder) Brehm. Clara grew up in that community, attended St. Joseph's Elementary School in Menomonie and graduated from Dunn County Normal. She taught in rural elementary schools in the Menomonie area for several years. Clara married William Mousel on June 4, 1930. After marriage they farmed in the Farm Hill area of Elmwood before moving to the Wlk Mound area in 1942. Clara and Bill operated the Black and White Bar for a few years, until it burned. As a result of the fire, Clara and Bill began building their own bar across the road. During the construction, Bill died suddenly. Clara managed to finish building the bar. She owned and operated Clara's Bar, raised her five children. Clara operated the bar for 35 years. After she sold the bar she built her retirement home just north of the bar. Clara enjoyed traveling, crocheting, ceramics and spending time with her family. For the past five years she resided at Dove Healthcare Nursing and Rehabilitation in Eau Claire. Clara's family would like to thank the staff of Dove Healthcare for the love and care that Clara received while residing there. Clara is survived by two sons, Harold Mousel of Anacortes, Wash., and Eugene (Ching) Mousel of Tacoma, Wash.; two daughters, Marion Curry of Eau Claire and Patricia (Terry) Pottratz-Wiseman of Dunnellon, Fla.; a daughter-in-law, Joanne Mousel, of Eau Claire; 20 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceeded in death by her parents; husband, William, in 1948; a son, Roger, in 1986; a sister, Evelyn Zimmer; five half-brothers; a great-grandson, Scott Paap; a son-in-law, Roger Curry; and a daughter-in-law, Pinkey Mousel. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Feb 29, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Elk Mound. The Rev. Victor Inbaraj will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Rhiel Funeral Home in Menomonie, where there will be a prayer service at 7 p.m. Friends may also call one hour prior to services at the church on Friday.
