EILEEN FELIX JOHNSON
Eileen Felix Johnson 1919 ~ 2011
Eileen Felix Johnson died Tuesday, January 11, 2011 at Timpanogos Hospital in Orem,
Utah. She was born October 24, 1919 in Leamington, Utah to
Jacob Felix and Permelia Greener Felix. She grew up in Springville, Utah on a farm, attending schools
there. She completed more than two years at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, before serving a
two year Spanish-American Mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Eileen liked school
and was an active student. She was always active in Church, serving in many positions of the auxiliaries,
both in the wards and stakes where she lived. She also assisted in the Church Social Services in three
stakes. Eileen married Leonard Haws Johnson April 20, 1945 in the Salt Lake
Temple, at the end of World War II. She returned to BYU, after her marriage and birth of her first child,
graduating in June 1948. In 1959, it became necessary to return to school at the University of Utah,
where she earned certification to teach English and Spanish in the Salt Lake City School District.
She also completed certification in Special Education to teach in the Granite School District and the Division of
Continuing Education at the University of Utah. She completed a Masters Degree at the University of Utah and
was certified as a School Psychologist for the Granite School District. Eileen loved reading, music,
cooking, and keeping a home for her family. During her years in Springville she enjoyed singing in chorus,
duets, and solos for church programs, weddings, funerals, and at socials and clubs. She performed in plays
and operettas. She enjoyed her surviving four children, 19 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren,
talking and encouraging them in their talents and achievements. She was preceded in death by her husband,
Leonard H. Johnson, and is survived by children Elena Smith (Vance) Royse City, Texas; Kent F. Johnson
(Susan, deceased) Salt Lake City; Mary Ann Franson (Rex) Provo, Utah; L. Dee Johnson (Valerie) West Jordan, Utah;
and one sister, LaZell Druce, Orem, Utah. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, January 15,
2011, at the Draper Utah Riverview Stake Center, 12101 South 700 West, Draper, Utah. A viewing will be held
prior to the service at noon. Interment will be at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Gardens, Salt Lake City, Utah.
The family would like to thank those at The Courtyard at Jamestown, Orchard Park Care Center, Mike with Sunbrook
Home Health Care, and especially Dr. Peter Duros and the staff at Timpanogos Hospital for their care and support
of our mother these last several years.
