P.G. Boy Rescued From Ditch by Mrs. Lyle Stewart "Knowing what to do and then doing it, saved the life of a three-year-old Battle Creek Heights boy last Thursday. He is Wayne Williamson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Don Williamson, 330 South 13th East Pleasant Grove. Wayne escaped drowning last Thursday afternoon due to the prompt and efficient assistance of Mrs. Lyle Stewart, a neighbor. The Williamson boy had been playing with four-year-old Jeff Heaps, son of Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Heaps, when he fell into an irrigation ditch. The two boys had apparently been climbing trees when a limb broke and Wayne fell into the ditch. Mrs. Stewart, a former Army nurse, heard the Heaps boy crying. He told her that his playmate was in the water. She entered the ditch and found the boy in extreme danger. His head was lodged under a broken tree limb. The boy was limp and purple and Mrs. Stewart discovered something lodged in his throad. She slapped in on the back and dislodged a piece of bread. She then gave the boy mouth to mouth resusitation until he was able to breathe. She then called the Pleasant Grove City ambulance. The boy was taken to the American Fork Hospital for observation and treatment. He was released to his home Friday morning. His father said he was "just fine," Saturday morning." |
