Notes: Bee told Dan in September 1995 that she and Henry lived here for about 20 years.
The house was built in 1918, had three bedrooms, one bath, a full basement, and
1422 square feet of living space. Henry had bought the house before their marriage and
remodeled it.
In the 1940 U.S. census, Henry, 31, and Bee, 26, were living here with their children,
Jeannette, 4, and Andrea, 1. Henry was a truck driver, and they owned the house,
valued at $3,000.
In the 1950 U.S. census, Henry J., 42, and Bee, E., 36, were still in the house. Henry
was the proprietor of a trucking company. There children were Jeanette M., 14, Andrea G., 11,
and Ralph J., 5.
Bill and Nora Hancock bought this residence from Hank and
Bee Lacaze in about 1953. Since the Hancock's prior Oak Street residence sold before
the Lacazes could move, the two families had to live together for a couple of months.
The photo at the right shows the 519 Madison Avenue house in its March 2007
condition. It looks almost the same now as it did back in the 1950s
— except that the white picket fence is a newer addition. |
