Notes: The two photos at the right show the front of the Hancock residence at
2425 Second Street in west Napa. The family resided here for over two
decades about 23 years total. The children grew up here.
This was the main family home. In some years the front porch
and the wire fence in front were covered by plants and vines. Notice
that a tall water tank building was to the left of and slightly behind the
house. The right-most photo shows the bottom third of the windmill at
the top of the water tower.
Son Bud thought that Wilfred and Nora had paid $2,400 for the place.
The three photos at the right show the left side of the house, the wire fence
along the front yard, more of the lush follage in the front yard, and the driveway.
The photo at the left shows Ruth, Bud, Bee, and Leola Hancock in the front
yard of 2425 Second Street in 1921. The children are standing on the
wooden walkway that went from the front of the house to the side.
The front gate and the wire fence can be seen in the right background.
The wooden railing of the front porch can be seen in the left background.
In the 1920 US census, Wilfred and Nora, both 27, were living at the Second Street address.
Wilfred was an electrician for a store. They owned the house with a mortgage, and Wilfred
had not yet become a U.S. citizen. The children were Leola, 7, Bee, 6, Warren, 4, and
Ruth, 2. Also living with them was Nora's sister, Mildred Samuels, 23.
The photo at the right shows the Shell Oil Company's tanks and buildings
that were next door to the Hancock's 2425 Second Street residence. Son
Bud later became a driver for Shell. The photo shows several members of the
Hancock family. The photo at the far right shows children on the swing that
Wilfred made in the back yard. Both photos were taken in April 1927.
In the 1930 U.S. census, Wilfred and Nora, both 37, were living in the same residence, and Wilfred
was now a U.S. citizen. He was an electrician in a radio store. The children were
Nora, 18, Bee, 16, Warren, 14, and Ruth, 13.
The three photos at the right show some of the rear of the house circa 1940.
Bud and Ruth are in front of the door into the back porch. The back porch
can be seen behind Ruth and the cat. Nora is standing between the house
and the water tank building. Water pumping equipment can be seen in the
backgroud on the right.

In the 1940 U.S. census, Wilfred and Nora were still living on Second Street. By now the
children had all moved on to other residences. Still an electrician, the census record reads
"building inspector"? His income was $1,600 yearly and their home was valued at $1,500.
Wilfred and Nora moved on to their next home in either 1942 or 1943 .
