Notes: Exerpts from the Adria Daily Times of 30 Sep 1899, which was quoting
the Detroit Tribune:
- The men, accompanied by several women and children, struck
Lenawee county in April, from somewhere in Ohio.
- A new religious sect with a membership of 11 to date has made
its headquarters around Detroit for the past two months.
- Springwells, where the entire colony was quartered up to two
weeks ago.
- Theo. Bird and Theo. Williams, were found at 13 Sixth street.
The Sixth street home of Bird and Curtis was in a basement of two
rooms, the front being used by Bird and his wife, the rear by
Williams, his wife and four children, one of whom had a foot cut
off by a Detroit railway car a few weeks ago.
The above reference to 13 Sixth street is assumed to be a typo.
On 11 November 1899, Theodore Williams and Theodore Bird both
said that their home address was 137 Sixth Street, Detroit. Due
to their imprisonment, however, they apparently resided at the
137 Sixth Street for only two weeks. I do not know how long
their wives and children remained at this location. |
