Notes: Mary Ellen Fisher was born 13 Oct 1870 in Bosanquet, Lambton, Ontario. Often called Ella,
she was the only daughter and child of her parents, Charles Fisher and Mary Catt Fisher. In
the 1871 CAN census, Mary, 6 months, was living with her parents in Bosanquet. Her father
was a farmer. In the 1881 CAN census, Ellen, 10, and her family lived in Thedford Village, Lambton. Her father was still a farmer, and the family was listed as Methodist. In the 1891 CAN census, Ellen, now 20, and her family were still in the Thedford Village, but now listed them selves as belonging to the Salvation Army. Her father was a laborer. Mary Ellen married Frank Thomas Hancock on 23 Sep 1891 in Thedford Village. They lived on a farmer on Lot 31 (just over 32 acres) of Ontario's Bosanquet Township near the town of Forest and near her husband's parents. Later, she moved with her husband Frank to Point Edward. They were both active in the Salvation Army. They moved to Wallaceburg, Ontario, in July or August 1902. Five weeks later Frank, Ella, and their 10 year old eldest daughter became sick from Typhoid fever. Ella, who had not been very well for some time, died 26 Sep 1902. Ella's remains were returned to Forest the next day on the 2:40 express train for burial. She was buried in the Beechwood Cemetery in Forest, with Salvation Army officials presiding. A memorial service was held in the Salvation Army hall that evening. Ella died just short of age 31 and three days after her eleventh wedding anniversary. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
