Notes:  Josephine Coughran was born 19 Aug 1876 in Wilson County, Texas.  She was the third of eleven children of George Washington Coughran and Frances Adeline Louise Props.  In the 1880 U.S. census, Josephine, 4, was living with her parents, George, 31, and Francis A., 28, in Precinct 4, Liano Texas.  Her father was a farmer and her mother was keeping house.  Her siblings were Hettie C., 8, Herman J., 6, and John, 1 year.

Josephine married William Riley Duncan 30 May 1895 in San Saba County, Texas.  They had two children:  James Hilbert and Hettie Loraine.  In the 1900 U.S. census, Josie, 24, and W. R. Duncan, 28, were living in Justice Precinct 3, Runnels County, Texas.  William was a manager.  Their children were Nelbert, 3, and Nettie, 10 months.

In the 1910 U.S. census, Josephine, 33, and William R. Duncan, 37, were living in Justice Precinct 1, Lynn County, Texas.  William was a laborer doing odd jobs.  They owned their house free of mortgage.  Their children were Hilbert 13, and Hattie, 10.

In the 1920 U.S. census, Josephine, 43, and William R. Duncan, 47, were living in Canyon, Randall, Texas.  William was a farm laborer, and they were renting their house.  Only James Hilbert, 23, a farm laborer, was still at home.

William died 28 Jun 1922 in Plainfield, Hall, Texas.  Death was a result of subphrenic absess due to stomach ulcers.  He was buried in the Richland Springs Cemetery, San Sabra, Texas.

Josephine and William Farland are listed in the 1929 Modesto City Directory, California.  Their address was 206 Maple, and William was a carpenter.  In the 1931 through 1933 directories, their address was 1016½ 6th, Modesto.

Josephine Duncan McFarren married William McFarren on 1 Feb 1935 in Matamoros, Tamailipas, Mexico.  The marriage was a very short one, as a cemetery record shows Josephine marrying Harry H. Davenport in 1935.

In the 1940 U.S. census, Josephine, 63, and Harry Davenport, 65, were living in Swisher, Kress, Swisher, Texas.  They owned their house, valued at $2,000., and both had completed 7th grade.  Neither worked, but both had income from other sources.  Harry died 21 Feb 1948 in Kress, Swisher County, and is buried in the Kress Cemetery.

In the 1950 U.S. census, Josephine, 73, a widow, was living at 504 S. California St., Stockton,San Joaquin, California.  On 7 Mar 1951, Josephine Coughran, 74, remarried William H. McFarren, 74, in Stanislaus County, California.  From 1952 through 1959, they are listed in the Modesto City directories as living at 706 Atlantic Drive, Modesto.

William died 5 Jul 1959.  Josephine died 14 Jan 1960.  Both are buried in the Wood Colony Cemetery, Salida, Stanislaus, California.
