Notes:  On Thursday afternoon, 21 Feb 1889, after a search of about half an hour, the lifeless body of 2½-year-old Ralph Chester was found in the waters of Putah Creek near Monticello.  All possible restorative measures were taken but to no avail.  The parents were almost heartbroken by their sad loss.

The child was buried on Saturday, the remains being followed to the cemetery by the largest funeral cortege even seen in Monticello.  All business houses were closed out of respect to the family.

Ralph Chester was originally buried at Monticello Cemetery.  The original location of the cemetery is now under the water of Lake Berryessa.  In 1956, prior to the flooding of the lake in 1957, the graves and markers were moved to Spanish Flat on the western shore of the lake.
