Notes: Elizabeth was about 12 years ago when her mother died.
She then became housewife and was in charge of her younger sister
Emma until her father married a relative of his first wife. Catherine Smith's mother said "Aunt Lizzie" was very kind, but her grandmother thought Aunt Lizzie was mean as a child when she had to obey her, when they were motherless. Catherine was afraid of Aunt Lizzie because she always was so quiet and somber. She always remembered her as very old. Aunt Lizzie lived in a very dark house in an old section of Pittsburgh, where the front doorstep was right on the sidewalk. | ||||||||||||||||||||||
