Notes: William H. McFarren, 20, and Rebecca Jane Ellison, 16, were married 21 Mar 1897 in Carroll
County, Arkansas. They moved frequently as they followed work opportunities
in the Arkansas-Missouri-Oklahoma tri-state area. Their daughter Alta was
born in Oklahoma in January 1898. Their daughter Bess was born in Golden,
Missouri, in January 1900. By June 1900 they were back in Carroll County,
Arkansas. Daughter Ruby was born in Oklahoma in July 1903.
Their son Roy was born in Indian Territory, Oklahoma, in September 1906. In the 1900 U.S. census, William and Rebecca were enumerated in separate states, William, 25, and his brother, E. Moore, 18, were both day laborers, boarding in the home of Marian N. Jones, 50, his wife Althea A., 47, and their four children. Their address was 807 South Royer, Colorado Springs, El Paso, Colorado. William was listed as single. In 1900, Becky McFarren, was living with her parents, John H. McFarren, 57, and Sarah E., 57, in Cedar, Carroll, Arkansas. Her father was a farmer. In the household was Mary Ellison, 39, her sister, and a cousin, Pearl Meeds, 22. Becky had two daughters, Alltie McFarren, 2, and Bessie McFarren, 4 months. In the 1910 US census, William H. McFarren, 33, and his wife Rebecca McMarren, 28, were living in Noble Ward 2, Cleveland county, Oklahoma. William was a laborer doing odd jobs. They owned their home, free of mortgage. Their children were Bessie, 9, Ruby, 7, and Roy, 4. The two daughters attended school. Their oldest daughter Alta Mabelle had died. The photo at the left shows the three daughters (Bess, Ruby, and Alta) probably early in 1906. Alta died shortly thereafter in 1906 or 1907. The photo at the right shows Bess, Ruby, and Roy circa 1910, probably taken at Noble, Oklahoma. The marriage did not last, and probably before July 1914, William took the three children, Bess, Ruby, and Roy to California's Imperial Valley. Rebecca stayed in Oklahoma, moving on to Kansas before 1916. | ||||||||||||||||||
