Notes: James was 33 years old when he married Fannie, a widow, age 42, with
six living children. They married quietly in Sarnia. The new
couple then went on a short honeymoon spent with the bride's brothers at
Windsor and London, Ontario, Canada. They returned to Forest a few days
later and on that evening about forty friends of the bride assembled at
her home on King Street, and presented her with several handsome presents.
The next evening the members of the Ladies Orange Society of which the bride
was a member surprised them. James and Fannie left the following week for Drumheller in Starland County, Alberta, where James was in charge of a Presbyterian Mission. They probably took Fannie's four youngest children with them: Willard, Grace, Ernest, and Ralph Culley. In Feb 1916 James and Fannie were living in Richdale (just east of Drumheller), Alberta, when Fannie and her son Ralph traveled to Corning, California, to join in the celebration of her parents' 50th wedding anniversary. In May 1916 James joined the army. He was killed in action 13½ months later. Thus they had a very short marriage. | ||||||||||||||||||||
