Notes: Henry immigrated to the U.S. in April 1888. He married Mary 15 months later.

In 1900 Henry was living in Ford County, Illinois, with Mary and their seven living
out of eight total children. In 1910 Henry resided in Osceola County, Iowa,
with Mary and nine living children, all of whom were born in Illinois. The
photo at the left shows daughters Hannah, Tillie, Sena, and Minnie circa 1910.
The next photo at the left shows Mary and six of her children (and several in-laws)
circa 1915.
The photo at the right shows Henry Bertram's whole family circa 1920.
Two of the children, John and Clarence, died in their birth year and don't appear
in any of these photos.
Later, Henry owned his family's home place on five-mile creek, five miles west of
Herman, Minnesota, on Highway 27. But he lost it when he encountered heavy
medical bills — after he developed fatal cancer of the mouth and face.
One son, Bill, remained in Minnesota most of his life, but six of his siblings
moved to California in the 20s, 30s, and 40s — including Sena and her husband
George Rath. The final photo at the left shows six Bertram siblings in 1966:
